What do they mean? Those Icons?

We’re making finding the fert you need easy. Making it easy for you to use is all part of the plan as well.

All the products listed on the FertFinda website have been labeled with one of the Icons below.

We have done this for the simple reason that knowing what you are working with on the farm and with machinery is really really important. For example when you order a UFP (Ultrafine Particle) product you want – need – to know that you are working with a product that is micronized to a particle size of under 100 microns. If the product is not under 100 microns in size then you will work with it very differently than a UFP product.

Let’s take Agricultural Lime, or Ag Lime, for example, and Lime Flour. The difference between these two is in the size of the particles to which they are ground down. Ag Lime is designed to be applied in a solid form out the back of a bulky or SAM spreader for example. If you were to use it in an agitation-based liquid/slurry application system, such as a Cyclone Spreader, the spreader would quickly clog up. On the other hand, Lime Flour is ground to a particle size of less than 100 microns in size and is suitable to be suspended in liquid, agitated in a tank, and applied using large single-orifice nozzles (just make sure you empty the tank completely and wash it out afterward as lime flour essentially settles and makes…..well….concrete!)

Knowing the difference between these two products and all the products on the FertFinda website is, as we said above, really really important, so, our labeling icon system is in place to help you make decisions on what to purchase for the type of application method you use.

Liquid

These fertilisers are all delivered to your farm in a liquid form. Many of these, but not all, are suitable for application through a traditional boom sprayer with rosette styled spray nozzles. The exception to this is that some liquid fert products are more viscous than others ie. they are quite thick. Products such as Fish Hydrolysate tend to fall into this category. Where this is the case we have labeled the product with a preferred application method such as an Agitation Spray System.

Dissolvable Solid

Fertilisers or nutrient products that fall into this category are all delivered to your farm in a solid form. Many are crystalline products that are easy to dissolve and dissolve quickly. However, some products are closer to Ultra Fine Particle products and take more agitation before they dissolve completely. Rest assured that if a product is labeled as a dissolvable solid product it will dissolve with continuous agitation ending up in a liquid form.

Ultra Fine Particle

Ultra-fine particle (UFP) fertilizers can vary in size depending on the specific product and manufacturer. However, generally, ultra-fine particle fertilisers have a particle size smaller than 100 microns, and some products can have particle sizes as small as a few microns. So the smaller the number in microns the smaller the particle size (1-micron = one-millionth of a meter). What is particularly important to remember is that these products are solid products that are suitable to be suspended in liquid and applied through a continuous agitation spray system such as a Chaos Springs Cyclone sprayer. Just don’t leave them to settle in the tank once you’ve finished spraying.

Solid

As with the Liquid icon the Solid Icon does not need too much explanation. Simply, this icon tells you that a product is a solid product and needs to be applied as a solid product. For these products, there is no other option for an application other than through traditional solid application methods such as a bulky or SAM spreader.

So that’s it. We hope it’s an easy system that serves you well in selecting the products you need for your farm that are suitable for your preferred application method.
